Genetic testing before TTC?

Question

Me and my husband will be TTC in January (while on vacation in Iceland) and my mom told me right when we got married to do genetic testing beforehand to see what could potentially be passed down to our kids. Has anyone else done it? would you recommend it and what kinds of things would they test for?

I did it. My parents had two pregnancies affected by a genetic disorder that was fatal to the fetus. Unfortunately there were two potential abnormalities that could have caused this particular disease and only one could be tested for. So, I still went and made an appointment with my OBGYN. It cost around $350 through the lab service they partnered with and it showed I was a carrier for 3 other genetic diseases (which was bit unsettling to learn) but fortunately my husband isn't a carrier for anything. It was worth the peace of mind. 
They test for all sorts of diseases and have different portfolios of what they test for. Because of my family history they tested for more than they would usually recommend.
