My period was around the 12th of last months. It says I was already supposed to start. I know. stupid question. but can i be late should I test?

I have been TTC and my nipples have been sore. I had sharp pains one day. Usually near my period and my boyfriend and I make love I start and this time I haven't. ive been nauseous yes. but I took a test a couple days ago and it was negative. a couple days before I was supposed to start
