How do you get your baby to fall asleep?

How do you get your baby to fall asleep? What is your technique? My little guy is almost 24 weeks and won't fall asleep unless he is nursing or in the car. It's making it very hard to leave him with babysitters because he ends up exhausted and screaming uncontrollably to the point where I have to leave what I'm doing. It's rough. He doesn't like to be cradled in your arms horizontally so I can't rock him, bounce him, etc. The doctor said he does not have reflux so it's not that. Been this way since 2 weeks and I'm starting to want to rip my hair out. I'm not a fan of CIO... please tell me your ways!!

my little one just goes to sleep however my older boy is now 7 and still a complete nightmare when it comes to sleep. when he was a baby I spent hours swinging his car seat, walking miles or sitting bolt up right holding him so he might stay asleep for 30-60 minutes, I tried every method of sleep training unfortunately some babies aren't keen on sleep and you just have to tough it out :( my terror is still awake at 10 / 11pm some nights and up at 6 the next morning bright as a button. hope you find something that works for you guys xx

I'm on my third baby, plus I work full time...so nursing/rocking to sleep every time was not an option for us.  We started sleep training around 6 weeks (no, she's never been left to CIO), and she's an excellent sleeper.  Naps are super predictable and at the same time every day.  Night sleep is 7 to 7 (I wake her for a bottle of breast milk at 10:30).  She has MOTN wakeups only when sick or having a growth spurt.
It takes effort, but it can be done.  Sticking to a schedule with appropriate wake times is key.

my routine with my 6 month old is to feed her a bottle when she's showing signs of getting tired, and while I'm feeding her I rock her in my glider. Usually she falls asleep while eating and I attempt to burp her and then lay her in her crib on her tummy. On the occasions she doesn't fall asleep while eating, I burp her once she's done eating  and then lay her in her crib like normal. we also have one of those aquariums attached to the side of her crib that I turn on when I start feeding her so that helps her drift off to sleep as well.

My LO started sleeping through the night at 2 months then when she was nearly 5months she stopped and started waking up 2 to 3 times a night. I just recently did some extended reading and started sleep training. Basically I feed her and don't let her fall asleep. Burp her then put her to bed with a pacifier. If she cries I wait 10 minutes before going in and popping the pacy back in.  I don't pick her up I just give her a gentle rub on the cheek and walk out. If she keeps crying I keep checking on her every 10 min. If it's nap time I will get her up after an hour and soothe her with a bottle and then try again. The good news is that if you do this routinely you shouldn't have a hard time more than a couple of days. At least that's my experience and it seems to be the same for many other parents who have blogged about it. The older they get the harder to break habits.

the way that every expert doesnt recommend.  
we hold and or rock to sleep at 99% of naps BECAUSE he falls asleep that way.
at night time he will fall asleep on his own (sorta)
so,  im kinda looking for ways to get him to nap on his own as hes getting bigger and heavier. lol.  he too doesn't like cradled any longer.  
I tuck his left arm under my left armpit like,  and put him belly to belly and he's not cradled horizontally,  but not quite vertical.  
we have to play white noise LOUDLY to get him to start falling asleep and then we turn the volume down. 
I am a stay at home mom but if I had to have someone else put him down,  he would probably scream and cry until he passed out.  
where does your LO sleep,  once asleep?  
how long are naps lasting?  I wonder if baby is chronically over tired bc of all this?

He sleeps in our room with us in his pack-n-play or in a dock-a-tot. He was sleeping GREAT (7+ hour stretches with 3-4 45 min naps) everyday until September 1st. His first tooth just broke through yesterday morning so I'm hoping that gives him some relief as I think that may be what started this mess.

I know how you feel! My LO has absolutely hated falling asleep for most of her 5 months on this planet 😀 She's
never been one of those babies who just fall asleep anywhere. There's always been a lot of resistance when it comes to sleep ☺️ but there has been progress during the last month. Nowadays she falls asleep pretty quickly in her stroller. I just put down the stroller curtain, put on some white noise and push the stroller back and forth. She falls asleep in 2-10 minutes. Learning to fall asleep in the stroller has also helped her in falling asleep in her own bed. Now on a good night I can just put her down and she rolls on her stomach and starts to sleep (but as I'm typing this it's not one of those nights, ha!). I've found advice on Precious Little Sleep -website helpful - especially their guidelines on how long you can keep your baby awake between naps. I've found that she needs a nap always after two hours of being awake. On that two hour mark she falls asleep supereasy. Later that that, and it becomes a struggle! Good luck!

Also, I know you said you can't cradle, my baby also hates to be cradled but I am able to hold her upright and bounce/rock/walk around with her like that to get her to sleep as well.

Thanks ladies! The night time doesn't bother me and I love that he needs me. It's just hard to leave him with our babysitter or family because he won't sleep for them and has recently started giving us trouble falling asleep nursing too. We're almost at the point of resorting to driving him to sleep for every nap / night time sleep. It's rough. Hoping it's just a leap or next sleep regression hitting early 😩
