Lip tie?

Anyone else experiencing some issues with nb lip tie? I feel she sometimes can't latch on and spits up a decent amount. Going to see what pediatrician thinks.

All of my babies have had both tongue and lip tie. Their dad had it and it wasn't caught early enough he had to have years of speech therapy as a child and also have his lip tie cut when he was in junior high because it caused him to have a gap between his two front teeth. As soon as we realized that our babies also had tongue and lip tie we took them to an ENT specialist when they were 1 week - 1 month old and had both their tongues and lips clipped. It's quick, easy and very effective. It made breastfeeding a million times better! I can barley fee it. We have a high deductible health insurance plan so our insurance doesn't cover the procedures, which sucks but I do think it's worth it, It cost us about $1,000 which includes the consultation, the procedure, and the follow up.

My son had a tie that affects his latch, and his ability to suck and swallow to get the adequate amount of milk. They clipped it in the hospital, because he couldn't latch to anything at all. We worked with a nipple shield and got him to latch on that. I've been having appointments with the lactation consultant, and they said he wasn't clipped enough the first time, so I had to have his little tongue clipped again yesterday, poor guy. Even if we're stuck with nipple shields forever,  I'm hoping having the procedure done the second time will allow him to at least latch well enough to be able to swallow more each time.

learned in the hospital if babys top lip can reach their nose they dont have a lip tie. and if they can stick their tongue out they dont have a tongue tie so try those

A good way to see if there's a lip tie is to see if baby's lip can comfortably reach baby's nose. And unfortunately most lip ties come with tongue ties 😕
