Vaginal seeding. What are your thoughts?

I'm scared to even google this. Vaginal seeding sounds like what I do when I'm ovulating, tbh. 😳

Sooooo.... not going to lie.... I totally just googled this 🤣🤣🤣😂😂 I had a c-section and didn't do this. And I'm sort of glad I didn't lol. It sounds kind of weird. "here's your baby!" says the doctor. "please add some vag juice to him please before handing me him." 🤣🤣😂😂

My thoughts are it makes a lot of sense in theory. Babies are supposed to be born vaginally, their gut flora is affected by the way they are born. Whether vaginal seeding is a viable alternative for babies born by c section I don't know. It sounds like it *should* be but given the delicate nature of the vaginal flora/PH I wonder if removing it from its nice warm environment would kill the good flora anyway. That said, if I had to have an elective c section I would definitely explore this further.

Is there a benefit of doing it?

I ended up having a cesarean and asked my doctor about this.. she said that's not something they did at this facility, but she is familiar with the practice.

Her answer was that "baby was dropped down in my birth canal long enough to get benefit" .. I don't know that I share her opinion.

Of course after that fact it hit me that I had been on penicillin 24 hours prior to his birth ... likely all of the good yeast and bacteria he needed for gut flora was killed off anyway :(

I started supplementing my baby with infant probiotic drops at 4 weeks old. Partly because we lost our ability to breastfeed at 3 weeks as a result of a tongue tie, no weight gain, and refusal of breast. (Super depressing)

So I picked formula with prebiotics and started giving him a probiotic every day.

He's been bloating recently, so should probably give him more soon.

I don't get it, I started bleeding pretty much right away after my c section. Is it the blood I'm supposed to put on my baby?
