High School Reunion - WTF?

Valerie • Baby Girl Addison. One & Done!

WTF just happened?!? So my class of 07 has been sitting around doing nothing but begging for a reunion on Facebook. Our class officers don't want to plan it. I'm an event planner and got tired of the notifications so I spent about two hours of my time and pulled together an event. It was going to be at a Dave in Busters style place with a private room that holds 200, the venue holds 1200. You got two drinks, appetizers, bowling for 3 hours, pool tables, shuffle board and control of the TV's and music. $30 a person. (We had 800 students in our class and needed 150 to reserve the room. The class before us had 650 and only 90 students bought tickets) you can also go ride go carts or laser tag or go to the escape room. There are kid areas so older kids don't need sitters. I planned it on the 14th of October. I made it totally clear I'm not able to attend but wanted to do this for the class. A few people were like that's boring but it was pretty well received.

The very next day another girl plans a reunion event at a bar in a city about 30 minutes away the weekend after. This is a "come if you want or don't we don't care" event no tickets.

So people started to get confused and I immediately said hey guys only one person has bought a ticket I can't reserve the room if we're splitting things up we won't ever get enough people to rent the space.

No one responded so I shut the original event down because I'm not going to be on the hook for PayPal "return my money fees" if we can't get enough people.

The bar the girl choose is run by one of my friends and I even extended an olive branch to say hey let me let him know you're coming give him a heads up maybe he can section of a space something?!?

I just don't understand why she would plan something the very next day? It's a class of 800+ students we don't know each other so it's not like she was out to spite me so I'm not sure why she waited till the day after we had a firmed up event. I'm just like annoyed and dumbfounded.

So the controversy is some people are upset I canceled the original event and others are applauding the fact the boring event is cancelled and now they can just show up and drink. Was I wrong to not want to spend my effort competing with a girl over an event I'm not even going too?
