The Jack

Jennifer

What ya need to know:

•we live just down the road from my in-laws (literally like a couple minutes from them)

•my father-in-law is notorious for coming to our house and borrowing things, without asking

•I'm 16 weeks pregnant (so hormones 🤦🏻‍♀️)

A few months ago, a guy my husband works with brought his own, personal jack to work. Not entirely sure why he brought his own. He had just cleaned out his car and didn't want to put it back in. My husband was in his truck, and the friend asked if he could keep it for a bit. So now we have this jack. My husband unloaded it at our house, next to our jack kit (ya know the ones from Walmart for like $60). Well sometime last week, guy from work asks for his jack back. My husband knew it was at our house, but couldn't remember where. We checked the shed, the overgrown grass by the shed, both porches, our little commuter car, my car, and his truck. It was nowhere to be found. I asked if there's any possibility it's at the shop at work, maybe someone accidentally took it. He/we are now nervous that we're going to have to pay $150+ to replace this jack. He asks around at work yesterday- nothin. But he comes home, and while getting ready for a church thing, says he found it. When I asked where, he said, "you don't wanna know." I finally get it out of him, and wouldn't ya know, his dad had it. Not only had he taken our jack kit, but also this other, more expensive one, that isn't even ours, without asking. While at said church activity, I texted his dad, because this was the last straw for me. I'm tired of the way he treats his son, and walks all over him. And I knew my husband wasn't going to say anything. We get done at the church, walk out to the truck, and there in the bed sits the jack. My husband kinda chuckles, then asks, did I call him or something? I said no, I texted him because he needs to no that that's not okay. Naturally he's mad at me. I'm the bad guy, whatever. I figured he just needed the night to cool off, some sleep, and we'd be fine in the morning.

This morning, he hardly says anything to me. He left for work, and that's when the texts start rolling in. Yes, we borrow things from my in-laws, and I personally have always asked permission. We've been using their carpet cleaner because ours needed to be cleaned, and they have one from when they used to have carpet (they now have hardwood/tile throughout). Did I cross some line?? The reason this set me off is because it wasn't even our jack! Hormones are through the roof, I'm standing my ground, but also in tears. Because when you're surrounded by your husband's family, moved across the country from yours; and then it feels like the one person in your corner is siding with his parents? 😏
