Buying a home, for example, is a great investment.
If you have 5 credit cards for your drunk online binge shopping...yeah probably not so good.

I think it's an extremely good goal to strive for. 
I'm proud to say the only debt we have is our house. 
We always pay off our ENTIRE balance of our credit cards every month.

It's important but I think it shouldn't be so consuming you make yourself miserable over it.

I think these answers are going to correlate strongly to your earlier question about rich and poor people thinking differently. Based upon many months on this app, I see many people who consider themselves to be doing quite well financially, but, all things being relative, I would definitely feel like I were struggling if I were them. They are often very debt-averse, and believe that having credit cards is bad, often mention  paid off cars (a rapidly depreciating asset) as a sign of their financial success, and own extremely inexpensive homes in rural area outright. They also often seem to like this Dave Ramsey person, who I had not heard of until reading about him on here. I was curious and looked into him, and his ideas seem to be based on helping out people with less income and fewer prospects by giving very straightforward and simple financial advice. Obviously, when you have more money, or the potential to make it (through acquiring educational debt, for example), your understanding of finances is going to need to be more nuanced than that, including with regard to acquiring, and dispensing with, debt.

It's important for me to be debt free, which is why we're paying off my husband's student loans aggressively. That being said, I think debt is okay to have sometimes. If he hadn't gotten the loans he wouldn't have gotten his doctorate. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When It comes to investments, I think leveraging is important. For my personal liabilities (car, credit cards, etc.)? Then yes, debt free is good.
