If I could afford it, sure. I'm not petty or one to hold grudges. I mean, I've been guilty of going to a shower without a present before, because I honestly just didn't have the money for one, but I still wanted to be supportive and show the mama that I cared about her and her baby.

Maybe they couldn't afford it... why should I deprive them when I dont know what was going on?

you never know their situation. i was struggling before and would be invited to family parties but id never be able to afford a gift so i would not show up, this caused a rift with my cousins because they never really saw me. maybe this person wanted to congratulate you but didnt have the money to get you something. even if it all seem good on the outside most people dont talk about their struggle.
