My birth story
First my pregnancy has been good. Very "normal". I gained 40 lbs total in belly/baby and water weight. I didn't have any complications at all during pregnancy and spotting was never a thing for me.
So I truly believed I wasn't going to have my baby till after her due date. I also didn't believe my water would break.
At 10:30 am on Wednesday, I noticed some watery fluid on my undies. Not a whole lot, maybe a tablespoon at the most but definitely not soaking through anything, Along with white discharge. I assumed this was just watery discharge after I had looked it up. It was "normal" at 38 weeks and 4 days to have watery discharge. Ok. But I told myself, it of happens again, I'm calling labor and delivery.
The whole day my hubby and I walked around the neighborhood, I bounced on the ball. I had only been checked at 36 weeks and I was 0cm so I was very much closed, hence the reason to believe nothing would happen again.
No regular contractions but super uncomfortable in back pain.
At 10:30 pm, got up to pee and bam, again, noticed my undies wet. Called labor and delivery and they asked me to come in to be tested to be on the safe said. I woke up my hubby and told him what was going on and I said, "it's prolly nothing but let's take our hospital bags". So we loaded up the car and drove to the hospital.
Arrived and I took and urine test, also laid down for a amniotic strip test. They strips showed negative. Then the nurse goes, BUT I have a second test we are gonna do and it take 15-20 minutes. So she swabbed me and as I waited on the results, she checked my cervix. Turns out o was 1 cm dilated.
So anyway, we wait and she comes back and says, "test is positive so looks like we are staying here and having a baby!"
I was like "what????"
We for sure thought we would be sent home like the other two ladies that seemed like they were in way more pain than I was. But since my membranes were ruptured and had been so for a while I needed baby out fast.
2 am they started me on Pitocin. Ladies...I pride myself on able to tolerate pain and she started me on a 2 and by 6 or 7 am on Pitocin, I asked for Tramadol and that shit made me so incredibly sleepy and drugged, my hubby said that I was talking to our cats and smiling at them while laboring in the hospital bed 😂
Anyway, after my ob visited me that day around 12 pm I told her I would get the epideral. I didn't want to go through any more pain because my doctor simply didn't want to check how far I was for risk of infection. I understood. So I did it and lord...thank you! Thank god I didn't suffer any side effects and thank god it worked! They told me I took it like a champ 👍🏼
But at 5 the pressure stated to get so intense it hurt! And by 6:30 ish I told them I get pressure in my rectum. Nurse checks me and my doula is like, "let's hopes for a 8cm. But we will take 6cm." Bc she was already telling me if I hadn't even progressed past 3 or 4 by that time. A c section is most likely and best option.
Nurse goes 7-8 cm! Thank you god! Dr is like, 4 hrs or so we might have a baby. Definitely by midnight!
Minutes go by and I tell my doula and nurse I'm feeling like I have to go use number two. Dr checks me, I'm a 9! Only 15 minutes before I was maybe a 7/8. She leaves to get prepped. We are thinking two hrs tops baby will be here.
At 6:55 I swear to god, the moment I saw her, I told her I need to push. She checks, I'm a 10! Doula is telling me how to breathe and how to push once it starts. She then tells my hubby how to count, watch the screen for contractions and guide me through. You guys...TEAM WORK! My hubby was terrified but he helped me through it. My doula, the nurses, my Dr, they all coached me. At one point they had me reach down and touch my baby's head and I started crying like "oh my god!"
I pushed for 30 minutes straight. I felt her stretching me out down there. It hurt so bad. I even tore and I felt the stitched go in. Despite having the most numb legs ever.
All in All, everything was worth it.
