I normally wipe right away with paper napkin to protect my bed sheets but I would love to know if that's also a thing to focus on

Doesn't matter unless you need to get up immediately....it all gets to where it needs to go. You're not losing any of it.

Anything that is coming out is out and won't get you pregnant. But it's advised to lay for about 15 or so minutes. So if your SO doesn't mind getting you something to clean up with wiping right then to protect the sheets is fine.
