Why does pregnancy make you so hungry?

I don't understand how just because you have this tiny human inside you it can make you so hungry? I literally want to raid the fridge but I'm trying not to.

Growing that tiny human is hard work. You're body is in overdrive and needs more fuel.

My guess is our bodies are wanting extra nutrients and energy bc it takes a lot out of us to grow tiny humans! We may not know it or feel it exactly but our bodies are working overtime at each stage in pregnancy and postpartum. I think now that I'm postpartum again I'm feeling it even more how much our bodies go through.

It's the combination of the drop in estrogen and increase of progesterone. Progesterone stimulates the appetite

I say raid it. I'd rather be comfortable than end up not eating enough. when I'm craving something or excessively hungry there's a reason behind it
