Preterm labor?

I'm 34 weeks 6 days and I've been getting really bad period cramps in my lower abdomen and sometimes my back. And I've noticed that my stomach gets tight and uncomfortable and I have a lot of pressure, the doctor says she's very low and head down and ready to come (although she said she hopes not right away) the only time I was checked was almost 2 weeks ago and I wasn't dilated and my cervix was still long but I've been getting the sharp pains going up. Could labor be coming soon?
