Ways for dad to stay 'present' during basic and OCS

Er

So my husband went to MEPS today, and took the AFQT on Wednesday of last week. He scored very high (so we're told; don't know much about the scoring system-98th percentile)

He was being told he would meet with the board in January, but now it sounds like October-before he even graduates with his bachelors. Things went from a glacial pace to our lives changing in the next two months. He seems to have cold feet all of the sudden-but he says about one thing- me(his wife) and our almost 1 year old daughter. The thought of leaving us is heart breaking to him, but we know it's so he can serve his country and get invaluable leadership skills he wouldn't be able to get any where else. So with that what are your experiences as wives or serving yourself, with doing basic and OCS with a child.

Also what are some ways he can be present while he is gone. My idea was to record him reading books to her on my phone so he can read her a book every night.

I know each class is different. He may get his phone every weekend or twice in 6 weeks. So we just want to make this a smooth transition for everyone.
