Can someone explain to me what gluten is and why it's so bad?

I know gluten is something that's in starches but is it a chemical or salt or sugar or what? Can someone basically explain it to me in layman's terms please, and why it's bad for your health? Please don't just copy and paste the definition of gluten from Meriam's dictionary 😩 I see the definition, I just don't understand what it really is.

It's a wheat protein. Basically the sticky stuff that holds wheat together. It's not a chemical. It's only bad for you if you have celiacs (like me) or an intolerance.

Its not bad for you unless you have an intolerance to it. Some people go gluten free as a way to lose weight. My sister has celiacs so she has to be truly gluten free -meaning things cant even cross contaminate like in restaurants she cant have something made in the same oil or grease as something with gluten. Personally I wouldn't want to stick to that diet as a) its about 2-3 times more expensive then gluteny foods b)its not as good lol so im very thankful i dont have an intolerance to it.

My husband is vegetarian and we use wheat gluten (and spices and onions) to make a vegetarian friendly meat-substitute.
 
It is the protein taken out of certain grains (usually wheat) and actually healthy for you as long as you don't have a gluten allergy or intolerance. 
People with Celiacs disease cannot properly process that type of protein and it can make them really sick, just like people who have an allergic reaction to the protein in pork.

this ⬆️and cause of alot of illness . gunks up the gut stops nutrients getting through causes havoc like leaky gut (tiny holes in the small intestine letting nasties through to where they shouldnt) .
