Experience with Incompetent Cervix?

It's exactly a week since I lost my baby boy. In that time I've been searching for possible reasons why my "normal" first pregnancy with a strong heartbeat, regular ultrasounds and no genetic testing ended in the second trimester with almost zero miscarriage symptoms and a painless delivery of my 16 week old son who was simply too young to survive.

My experience has pointed me to the possibility that I have an incompetent cervix. My pregnancy loss story seems to closely match women with this condition that have lost seemingly healthy pregnancies in the second trimester. Has anyone here been diagnosed with incompetent cervix after a miscarriage? What did your doctor do or test to make the diagnosis? I'd love to hear any experience with IC as I plan to bring it up when I have my follow up appointment with my OB.
