Contrary opinion: Do you not believe in true love?

So, I was very romantic as a kid/teen, but now I think the whole romance thing is as fantastical as dragons. The vast majority of relationships I've seen didn't go well, and it seems the stronger the attractions at the start the more likely they are to be based on past problems or delusions. Real relationships are about being comrades in arms against life's hardships; all the silly mythical froufrou will damage that in the long run. That's really hard for both parties, and to be honest I don't think most people can do it. To have the necessary amount of trust, you have to be fully honest and know each other in full detail, something that fairytale ideas will just ruin. That's a lot more maturity/truthfulness than most can manage.

Another problem is you can love tons of people in different ways, so is one more legitimate than the others? I don't think so. Love is love, it just has many different shapes.

Third point: as yet, we are only scratching the surface of how the brain works and what consciousness is. So what we think of as 'love' could be something pure and amazing...or easily created in a test tube (sometimes there's a crossover, but not in this case).

Tl;dr? Most of 'romance' is mythical, the best relationships often run counter to those ideas. There's all kinds of love, so true love implies false love. Thirdly, we don't really know what we are talking about when we talk about love...that's about all.
