Cab you get a uti by wearing a diva cup?

Question

My parents have been blaming my recurring uti's on my using a diva cup. I change it around every 10 hours, the recommended time limit, and boil it between cycles. There is no pattern to the uti's that correlates to my period and I even get infections between periods. Can you get a uti from a diva cup?

I know this is a late response, but UTIs can be recurring if you take antibiotics for them because your gut flora (any good bacteria) is depleted every time you take a round of them. Try adding probiotics into your diet daily and supplementing with a good one, especially if you are on an antibiotic. Cut down on sugar if you eat a lot, even temporarily. Also add a large amount of water per day to keep your bladder fluids moving. This should be a great help.

The diva cup itself no cant cause a UTI unless you don't clean it but you do. But I've noticed when I pee with it in I don't pee all the way because it puts pressure on my urethra. So if you aren't emptying your bladder all the way because it's putting pressure on the urethra then yes it could cause a UTI.

TMI but do you wipe front to back? or back to front? Do you wash certain items if you have them for your "own time"? Do you wash your hands often? Drink plenty of water?

As long as you are cleaning it and your hands when taking it out and back in then it shouldn't be the cup. However, it could be causing you to not empty your bladder completely. Always make sure you're wiping from front to back and make sure you are finishing your antibiotics completely. Cut back on any "yellow" soda like sundrop and Mountain Dew they irritate your kidneys and bladder.

Cranberries have a compound that can prevent bacteria from being able to stick to the walls of your UT. If you have a glass of 100% juice cranberry juice every day it can shorten a UTI and drinking it occasionally thereafter can help prevent new ones.
Staying hydrated and peeing frequently will also help.
