Placebo Pills???

I take the combination pill Aubra and all the pills are the same color except for the last week in each pack. Can I skip taking those and just move onto my next pack in order to skip my period for this month?

Also while on the week of taking that last week of pills, is my birth control less effective?

No one has ever explained to me how placebo pills work and I'm guessing since these are the only pills of a different color in my pack, these must be it.
