I'm a virgin and I also am very awkward with this type of thing, The problem is that I want to try! If you want to try, tell him this! Tell him you feel nervous and it would be best for him to take the lead. It's ok to be scared. 
If your too scared though, no harm in waiting. Don't push yourself into something you're uncomfortable with because you feel like you should want it.
