Was your long distance relationship successful?

I'm currently talking to someone long distance, I like them a lot but I'm scared to actually jump into a relationship with him considering he lives far from me. I want to know if there's hope or are long distance relationship usually a failure.

I think long distance relationships could work out. I have a friend who met her boyfriend online like when we were 14. I was skeptical about her going for him since 1. He lived in Idaho and we were in NC and 2. He's kinda older than her. Probably too much older. But now they've been together for years. They also live together too. I usually don't like those kinds of ldrs because you don't know that person like that. They could say one thing and be doing something else. Ahem. Like the show "Catfish". 
Part of my relationship/marriage was ldr only because he joined the military. My husband and I met in high school though. 
Ldrs work if two people put a lot of effort to make it successful. I just think you should meet with him first before you two pursue a relationship.

My (now husband, then boyfriend) dated long distance initially. We knew each other in high school but both went different ways (he joined the marines and I went to college). We ended up talking a year later and became really good friends long distance. We would skype and call and text all the time. Then we met up when he was on leave and I was home for Christmas break and hung out every day for two weeks. We started officially dating. Then he had to go back to the marines so we dated long distance another 5 months. Met up in person for another two weeks and got engaged. Dated long distance another 5 months and then got married a year to the day we started dating. Now we have been happily married for 2 years. 
Here is my advice and things to note from our story: 1) we kind of knew each other before hand in high school, and we took time to go on dates before we started actually dating. People are different long distance than they are in person. Make sure you meet up before you decide so you can see if you click in person or if you are shy and awkward together. 2) long distance is SOOO hard. We had to really want the relationship. We worked hard, made time for each other, planned Skype dates, sent gift packages and visited whenever we could. 3) we are both in our twenties and had dated around before so we knew what we want and didn't want in a relationship. It wasn't a whim decision or anything. If you both really want it to work, it can. But you'll have to be able to survive without physical touch, and going on dates, jealousy or sadness when you want to be there for something like his birthday  and can't, etc. You really need to be mature for it to work out. But it can happen. It did for me ❤️

You have to meet him first otherwise it's not a relationship. You don't k ow someone unless you spend actual time with them. But yes it can be successful
