Progesterone??

Hi! My friend text me this:
"My dr wants me to go on progesterone since I am advanced maternal age (she's 39) AND have a miscarriage in my history. Do you know anything about this?"
I'm not familiar. Anyone else know about this?

I had 3 miscarriages. this time I got a new doctor and she put me on progesterone. I have gotten the furthest yet without spotting. what it does is help the formation of the placenta and thickens the uterine wall for a better chance at baby sticking. vaginal progesterone is better because there are less side effects. also if you throw up you don't risk losing its effect.  It knocks me out tired either way, so I take it at night. no other side effects that I've had.

Progesterone is a hormone that helps your body to retain a pregnancy. She may or may not actually need it, but it wont hurt anything to take it.

I had a miscarriage a few months ago and my doctor automatically prescribed me progesterone without even doing blood work first. I'm now 5 weeks today and have been taking 200mg orally for over a week. My HCG is rising accordingly so I suppose the progesterone pills are working! She still hasn't ordered any blood work to see if the progesterone is even needed or if I need more though. Which kinda drives me crazy but she's the doctor, not me! 
As far as side effects go, I take it at night because it makes me reeeaaally sleepy and pretty nauseous.

Have they actually checked her progesterone levels? I'd ask for that to be done before starting.

I'm taking progesterone pessaries three times a day. I've had no side effects apart from discharge from the tablets. It's easy & I feel I'm doing everything I can to avoid another miscarriage.

I had to take progesterone pills because mine was low with my first! If your progesterone levels are too low it can cause miscarriage! It won't hurt your friend to take it
