Can anyone tell me all about breastfeeding?

Question

I am going to breastfeed but I know NOTHING about it, how long is milk good for?
Can I leave it in the fridge? 
How many times should I pump?
Is it true your boobs get hard as rocks if you don't pump?😳
I figured I would ask some of you moms who have experience with breast feeding.

Most hospitals have lactation consultants that are super experts on all of this stuff! Make sure to ask for one when you have your baby, as it's not always a routine thing. They help with baby's latch, positioning, and tips about helping keep up your milk supply and storages guidelines. They are seriously such a good resource. If your hospital doesn't have them (unlikely) your OB's office should know how to get you in touch with one :)

also, massage your breasts in circular motions while pumping. it helps a lot! and yes, your boobs will get hard and hurt if they get too full! dont let that happen! but if it does, alternate hot and cold or hand express in the shower. invest in breast pads and nipple cream! Dont get discouraged if you have a hard time!!

milk can be stored in the freezer for about 6 months or so, in the fridge for a week i think (not sure on that one). if you are pumping only, you need to do it as often as you would feed baby, so aim for every 3 hours. and thats from start to start. if you are feeding baby, try to do it after each feeding. the more milk you take out, the more you produce!! i was told it was good for 4 hours at room temperature but i never left it that long. make sure to label all stored bottles because there is nothing worse then trying to figure out when it was put in the fridge and having to dump it out because you dont remember. also if you end up with low supply, try mothers milk tea or fenugreek. with your breast pump, make sure the flanges (part that covers the breast) fits properly. try to pump each breast at least 10 minutes. the sprays you see when pumping are your let down, try to pump until it happens twice on each. as always, i am not an expert so discuss all this with your doctor/midwife! you can also see if your local hospital offers a breastfeeding class. good luck:)
