Mandatory dorm/room sharing in college

Was reading buzzfeed's snap story and this came up.

I know a lot of colleges in my state that get anywhere from 0-70k from students a year to attend that college, and don't allow the students to live off campus for the first 1-2 years and require that students share their room with a fellow roommate (anywhere from 2-4 are usually housed in a room/room type setup, here you can usually pick your number of roommates based on grades/seniority). Some only have a large communal bathroom on each floor for the floor to share while others do have their own divided bathrooms between each room. Single dorm rooms are typically reserved for those with medical conditions or special requests signed off by a doctor/psychologist/etc. I never really thought about the money aspect of this tied into dorm sharing until now.

What are your thoughts on it being mandatory to share dorm rooms when you are paying a lot of money to attend that college? Just something that comes with the territory or unacceptable?
