Strep b?

Can someone explain to me what this, and what it means if i test positive for it? I just found out im positive and im currently sitting in my drs office because i started leaking fluid earlier today. Ive googled but, you know google saying im dying lol

They are probably going to give you antibiotics so you don't pass it to your baby.

It’s basically a bacteria in your body that would make the baby sick if it got on the baby when you’re giving birth, so you’ll have an iv with antibiotics for the strep b when you’re in labor to make sure the baby doesn’t get it

I just got that test done today! My doctor said it's bacteria some women carry so during labor/birth they give you antibiotics so it doesn't pass to baby. She also warned me that I would have some contractions and cramping after the exam, and some spotting.

Strep B can (and most likely does) live in the digestive tract of many, off and on. This is why you aren't tested for it until towards the end of the pregnancy. It can be passed to baby through vaginal birth. They typically like to see you receive two bags of antibiotics before the baby is delivered. If for some reason this doesn't happen, baby can be given an antibiotic as well. It's fairly common and not something to worry over. I was positive my first pregnancy, and negative this time.

Just got back from my drs. Apparently im still closed and she doesnt know what the fluid was. She barely explained strep b and now im having more painful contractions and cramping after my exam. Im hoping shes wrong lol

I have strep b also. Need to get antibiotics 4 hours before delivery to protect baby. Failing this they will need to monitor the baby more closely after birth just to ensure no infection etc. Doesn't affect you but could affect baby. In U.K. apparently 1 in 4 pregnant women have it at some point during pregnancy (it can come and go) they don't specifically test for it so lots have babies fine without knowing they have it and hence no antibiotics. 
I've done quite a bit of research into it and the types of complications for baby can potentially be quite serious so I've done things like making sure all mattresses are new and I've bought a baby monitor hat also has movement sensory pads. Just need to monitor them more closely after birth so if they seem a bit lethargic or less responsive etc to get them medical care straight away as could be a sign of sepsis or other serious infection. The risks are still very low, just need to be more vigilant from what I can gather. The fact you know you have it already puts you in a better position and if you get antibiotics at least 4 hours before delivery I think that means all is fine anyway x

Nothing to be scared of. You are a carrier of the bacteria Strep B. About 10% or something of women are. They will give you a few doses of antibiotics in labor to make sure baby doesn't get it but otherwise there is nothing more to it.
