Soothie pacifier before 4 weeks?

Question

The lactation consultant had advised waiting 4 weeks before letting my baby use a pacifier to avoid nipple confusion. However I’ve noticed that sometimes my son just wants to suckle on something and I’ve been offering him my breast to my chagrin. They’re now super sore and tender to any type of touch. 
Another nurse had weighed in and said that with enough curbing he could take the pacifier and still successfully breastfeed. 
Anyone have experience with either waiting or deciding to just go for it?

We gave her a paci at the hospital-and we are still nursing at almost 11 months just fine. We used the soothie type pacis. Our lactation consultant basically said mommys mental health matters too and baby might need a paci to give me a break for a little bit.

I'll give my son a pacifier at the hospital even though I plan to breastfeed. No offense to bub, but I will NOT be used as his pacifier. Only for feeding. I got severe PPD last time because I didn't feel like I could be my own person. So I will only let him on for feeding.
They need that soothing thing, because they can't self soothe. And my already sore nipples won't be his paci 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have our son a pacifier at the hospital. He's never had an issue with nipple confusion. 
Honestly, I didn't think it was a good thing to have baby try and use my boob as a pacifier (as that could be a continuing habit that would need to be broken), especially when they're so sensitive at first.

I caved in once my nipples were raw to the touch and gave my daughter the Soothie at 2 weeks and she's never had nipple confusion. Everything in moderation but I recommend the Mam brand since they're closer in feel, shape and texture to moms nipple.

My son got the soothie pacifier at the hospital, he was in the NICU so they gave it to him before I even got to see him. I think nipple confusion is a made up thing. My son has had a paci and he had a bottle early bc we had to supplment formula and he’s never had an issue with nipple confusion. Maybe that’s just my son..

My son got a binkie in the hospital and is still nursing at one. My LC told me nipple confusion isn't actually as common as it's made out to be. I would've been raw for months if I hadn't given my son a binkie.

Both babies got binkys within first week. My first born nursed till he self weaned at 22 months. (i was 5 weeks pregnant by then) 
Now I have a month old baby and he nurses perfectly fine with binky.

We used our pinkie finger in his mouth until 3wks which is when wanted to wait until a paci... besides arm cramps it worked great for us!

worst case you will just end up pump feeding.... but it's not likely I've gave my son a binky since a week old. He does fine you just gotta make sure to keep the baby and your boobies well introduced!
