Cost for adoption?

I'm ready to adopt my first child. Hopefully a newborn, from Africa. As someone familiar with this field, what are the average costs for adoption? What could it range from?

My sister and I are both adopted from Sierra Leone. I wouldn't be able to give you info on prices granted we were adopted in the late 90 so I'm sure it has changed anyhow. It's good to hear this. If there is info on the process that you'd like to know later I could ask my parents see what they had to go through to get our adoption finalized.

Adoption is 20,000 and more it's not cheap

In the US, private/open adoption costs about 26-40K overall unless you go through the foster system (which is free). Overseas adoption frequently costs more because you need to travel (at least once) to the other country and stay for some time. I had been planning on adoption from Ethiopia but wait times can be up to 4 years and costs were incredibly high so I enrolled with a US agency instead. 
That was my experience but I'm sure there are other options of which I'm not aware.
