Should I tell him?

I have this ex that my SO really hates and doesn't want me talking to him, so to avoid a fight I cut off all communication from my ex (we didn't talk for like at least a year before I met my current SO anyway, so it wasn't a big deal). Tonight I was at the gym and my ex was there, and we both noticed each other and there was no way to pretend we didn't see the other without being rude. So I said hi and we did the whole "how have you been" thing for a minute or 2 then went on to finish our respective workouts. I want to tell my SO because I tell him everything, and I would feel like I was hiding something from him if I didn't tell him (even if it was an innocent conversation). But if I tell him I feel like he might get upset that I even saw my ex (he REALLY REALLY HATES my ex). It was just an innocent conversation so I shouldn't NEED to tell him.

What would you do?

Urgh your adults he should man up and accept that you're just not a rude bitch! Just tell him if he kicks off ignore him and let him see how childish he's being

Thanks for the input, everyone. I've decided to tell him. I feel like if I do he will see there is nothing to worry about because of my honesty with him. First thing in the morning I'll talk to him, I don't think he would want to be woken up for this lol :)

Having open communication is good for the relationship..even if from time to time you have to talk about the things you know all upset him. Be honest and tell him. He might get upset but at least he'll know..

What about if he runs into him in the future. What if your ex were to day 'it was nice running into her a few weeks back'. That would be way worse. It also gives the feeling that maybe you have feelings for him because you hid it.

There is no need to tell him. Your ex isn't an important person in your life. He's your past. If you cut communication then it shouldn't matter if you had an innocent chat with him. You just need to trust yourself. It was a one time thing and it's in the past. No need bring it up. Throw it out the window

Why does he hate your ex? Is it because he is your ex and a reminder that you had a life before him? Just asking because my SO is the same, he hates all my ex's and he doesn't even know them, I call it jealousy because I had a life before him, I couldn't care less about his ex's, they're an ex for a reason

My DH feels this way about my ex and I know that if I even accidentally ran into him my DH would throw a fit and then stop talking to me for the rest of the day. But I would still tell him. If you hide it then it would eat away at you and the longer you wait the more suspicious he will be and more likely to be upset about it.

If it wasn't that big of a deal then don't be nervous to tell him because if it's something that's a big deal that's why you should be nervous but from what it sounds like it was nothing but two people who knew each other just saying hey!
