When to Stop Swaddling

Question

My daughter is 3 1/2 months, and the last few weeks she has discovered her hands and loved sucking on them and what not. Since she was born she has loved being swaddled tight, but since she’s started exploring her hands, I think the swaddling can frustrate her if she’s in the mood of wanting her hands. So... when did you guys stop swaddling your babies, and why?

Every kid is different. My son hated being swaddled, even as a newborn. You could see how she likes being out of a swaddle for a nap as a trial run. you could also swaddle her without pinning her arms or zip her up in a sleep sack as an alternative.

You don’t have to stop swaddling her, you can leave one or both hands out and still swaddle.

My son was seriously swaddled until 8 months. He was a preemie so ‘technically’ 6 months gestation-ally. But it was the only way he wanted to sleep. Swaddles didn’t work, I actually had to use a blanket. Once he was an avid roller & worked his way out, we stopped swaddling.
