I would say yes it is part of it but I have been doing research on mucous plugs lately and you could lose your mucous plug weeks before you have your baby and your body will just continue to make more from what I understand but it will be better safe to just go get checked in and seeif you are dilating especially if you feel like you're having contractions.. The mucous plug is there to help keep out any bad bacteria and from what I have read the reason sometimes it has blood in it is because small blood vessel's around your uterus may rupture causing there to be a little blood in your mucous plug
