Living with PCOS

Dr

I think over the last few years PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) has become a lot less of a taboo topic. It seems as though more women are open about issues they have, whether it's infertility, sex, menstrual, etc.

I know since I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 months ago I've become more aware of how many other women have it. My mom was never diagnosed with it, but since it's hereditary and took her 13 years to conceive I assume she may have had it as well.

My worst symptoms from it are acne, oily skin, irregularity, inability to lose weight easily, depression, thinned hair and unwanted hair...so basically the majority of them, haha. I don't know tons about it yet, but these symptoms didn't start until my early 20's. In high school I had clear, perfect skin and I could diet and exercise and lose 10 lbs quickly, with no issues.

I've read a lot about how diet helps, cutting out the majority of gluten, soy and dairy from your diet is what I have heard helps -- and when it comes to weight loss and regulating, I've seen it actually work. The downside is, I can't be on birth control to help regulate because the hormones in it cause me to have terrible migraines so I use diet to manage -- which isn't always fun when you want to eat pizza. Lol

So for those of you who also have PCOS, what's your story? How long have you had it and what do you do to control your symptoms?
