Waterproof pad for bassinet?

I have a Dream On Me bassinet and it comes with a simple foam pad, but it's not waterproof. I'm wondering if anyone else has a bassinet and had a waterproof pad for it. Is it necessary? Would sheets be enough?

What I did was put a waterproof liner between the mattress and the sheet. You typically can't wash the mattress so if spit up or diaper leaks go through the sheet your stuck with a yucky mattress that bacteria can grow on
