Is it rude to not tell family members you are in labor until you deliver the baby?

Something I am considering doing not because I have intrusive family, but because I don't want them overly checking or extra pressure.

I was being nice and asked our family members to not post pics on social media and to be mindful of our birthing experience! I was going to have my mother in law and my mom in the room while I had my son but while I was in labor our parents started bashing each other and caused a huge fight for no reason! I kicked everyone out. Well when it was time to push they put us in an OR  because my son was 5 weeks early. Then after I wasn't able to see my son for another 2 and a half hours later so my mother in law decided to put it upon herself to see him without me seeing him first and posted all the pics she wanted! The first time I seen my sons face on Facebook. I say do it you and your hubby! Family can visit afterwards

We're not even telling people we're pregnant until after labor. I'm so sick of people thinking that pregnancy makes a woman public property. It's your decision. If you like everyone to know and like visitors at the hospital, absolutely tell everyone. If you want it to just be you, hubby, and baby, absolutely keep it to yourself. It's not rude when it's no one business unless you choose to include them.

its not rude at all I should've done it with my first because constant people was horrible! I will be doing it for this baby in a few weeks because everyone stressed me out to check on me

My sister told my mom it would be at least 2 hours after delivery that she could come in and see. 
No one got there till the next day to see my niece. We gave her her space

I don't want people waiting around for the baby to be born. My parents live hours away and I'll need them to come to my house to give my cat his meds, then we'll tell them to come meet the baby once she is born. I don't want my husband's family there. We're not close with them and I'd rather they visit the house once we're home. My labor, my rules! I will be in no condition to deal with people I don't have a good relationship with.

I'm planning to tell me family well after my epidural and in mid-pushing. my mom wants to be in the room and my hubby doesn't want anyone in there but me and him. even after telling her this, she rejected the idea and said no one will stop her. don't want to deal with the drama so it's just me and hubby this go around. It's his first and my second and she was there for the first and my only support, but this time is different and I want to give my hubby this moment.

It depends on the family members and your relationship with them. I plan to at least text certain people in my family when Im admitted at the hospital. I plan to call mine and my hubby's parents on our way there.

I’m so thankful I went into labor in the middle of the night and had a quick labor. Nobody was even awake until after baby was born ;) win!

I'm doing the same thing. I'm actually calling them the next day after I deliver.i need REAL support, and I just want me and hubby in the room.i would look like time to myself for me and hubby to bond with baby and just to relax.i think it's a great way to do it like that.and one of my sisters did it that way with her last baby.plus I have an intrusive family who arent very supportive and this is a special moment and I would like to keep it that way.good luck mama and if any family should feel away then they shouldn't be there at all,I'm sure birthing is a very intimate stressful ordeal and sometimes you just want your space and to keep things intimate.

I’m not telling anyone. It’s just going to be me and my boyfriend. I don’t even want people coming to the hospital they can see my baby after we come home. If my boyfriend needs support I wouldn’t mind his mom meeting at the hospital but I don’t want her coming up. I just want to have a peaceful and private birth and be able to have quality time with just us 3.
