Should the minimum pay wage be higher?

I am having a conversation with a group of friends and I think this topic can be very controversial. One friend said he thinks there's a lot of homeless people in certain areas here in the USA because the living cost can be extremely expensive that two jobs isn't enough. Even though I feel people sometimes are homeless for other various reasons, but that's another topic. Moving forward another friend was saying that for some places it's ok but areas like LA & NY the cost of living can be so expensive. Over all California in my opinion is expensive I guess. I don't say other places because I really don't know. But I'd like to know your opinion on this.

Do you think they should raise the pay or not? And why?

Also, I'd like to know how much is the average cost of living where you are from.
