Twins?! Vanishing twin ?

So I went to the doctor today & got an early ultrasound at 5w2d bc I was having very sharp one sided pains earlier this week. Thankfully everything looked great & the baby was in the right place. We were totally shocked to find out there isn’t just 1 baby but 2! I’m going back for a second ultrasound & what will actually be my first prenatal visit in a few weeks & I’m super nervous & anxious. The doctor did mention the possibility of one baby not continuing to grow & being absorbed by the other. Has anyone had this happen to them? I’m just not sure how common it is but from what I’ve read it definitely can happen. We are hoping & praying both of our little ones stick 🙏🏼

UPDATE!!! Both little ones are doing great & measuring a day ahead of 12w!! They were both moving like crazy today. Were so in love already ❤️😍

My doctor told me that same thing and freaked me out. I’m almost 25 weeks now and both babies are still there! Don’t stress about it, it is true that once you hear heart beats that the chances go down of one vanishing

We have officially graduated from the fertility doctor. They are sending all of my records over to my regular OB. He said that they both look great! A is measuring 8w0d and B is measuring 8w3d.

What made the Dr come to that conclusion? I was pregnant with twins, on our first ultrasound at 6 weeks baby 1 was smaller and Dr had a hard time finding a heartbeat, when he did it was slow, but baby 2 was big and had a super strong heartbeat, baby 1 stopped growing at 7.5 weeks and was reabsorbed. I'm now 22.5 weeks with the other baby, she's thriving!. Hope everything works out great for your babies.

Good luck!! I️ have a 4 month old girl and she initially had a twin. We saw both babies at 8 weeks, but the doctor said one might get absorbed. Sure enough, by the next week we only had one baby. 😔 In the end, everything worked out for the best. Our twins were MoMo twins- they shared a sac and placenta - which is rare and extremely risky. If we’d had both I️ would have been hospitalized from 20 weeks on, and there would have been a high risk of losing one or both babies. It was a little sad, but now we have the most beautiful baby girl! Whether you end up with one or two, I️ hope you have a wonderful, healthy pregnancy!
