Should self defense lessons be mandatory in school?

Should self defense be mandatory in middle school/high school? Perhaps it could be counted as a PE credit? Or make it a PE class? 
Thoughts?

I think it’d be a great option. I feel like forcing all kids to participate whether they want to (or can) or not would cause problems if you’re talking about lessons that would include physically acting these self defence methods out you know. Of course if you’re just sitting in a room listening I don’t see how it could be a problem.

I wouldnt say mandatory in school .There are only so many hours in a school day.  But as a parent it would be beneficial to  enroll your child into a program.

Yes.  My mom is a marine she had my siblings and I in martial arts from a young age. I firmly think every person should learn it. Especially women.

Yes to an extent. Where have all those sit up and pacer tests gotten me??? Absolutely nowhere. At least doing four years of self defense in highschool would have gotten me something. Like the ability to defend myself when the douchebag bullies felt like throwing me into a wall🤷🏻‍♂️. 
Hell start even younger than highschool. PE as it stands is useless, at least make it an option with a purpose.

Maybe not in school,  as teachers seem to struggle to find enough time for everything during the day as it is (and then the money for those lessons would have to come from another department).  But they should be free/heavily discounted for school students.  I also think first aid courses should be free/heavily discounted for students and parents.

I don't think it should be mandatory, but I would love to see it offered. In middle school I had to take archery. Some type of martial arts seems so much more beneficial, especially when coupled with the principles that are taught. Realistically though, I don't think public schools will make this part of PE if it includes any contact.

In high school they taught self defense. I remember sitting the ex cop instructor go over maybe 1 hour of tips for safety. 10 years later I still remember it. Have I had to knee a man in a dark ally? No but I know how. I think it should be taught.

Not mandatory, but I definitely think it would be beneficial. Especially for us younger girls, it really is a good thing to learn. If the classes are consistent and done well, it could lead into training for a wrestling team, even an MMA team in highschool. This is just a thought, my school only does general PE and weightlifting for the required 20 credits. I'd love to get out of my comfort zone and learn this stuff though.
