OB Dr. on tracking temps..

The other day I had my annual ob/gyn appt. During the appt I mentioned my ovarian cyst, and that my temps were all out of wack and if the cyst would cause that(we are tracking to TTC). He then said "No, it shouldn't, but we don't care for temps anymore, they are so inaccurate." "Just count your cycle days and divide by half, so you should ovulate on CD 14 (like duh, in my body works perfectly I guess). So my question is.. Huh? Did something change in the last 2 years where temps are all of a sudden not good for tracking ovulation? They've always been spot on for me..
