Should birth control only be free for women who need it due to medical issues?
Medical issues such as:
Irregular or heavy periods
PMS
Primary Ovarian Insufficiency Endometriosis, etc
— — saw an interesting debate on twitter today. To quickly summarize a woman believed that birth control should only be free for women that needed it due to medical conditions. She argued that with the option of condoms, unprotected sex was a CHOICE and women who wanted to engage in unprotected sex should fully foot the bill for whatever consequences occur (STI, pregnancy, etc) OR take responsibility for the bill for birth control if they want to use it as a method of engaging in unprotected sex.
— — of course people disagreed with her. The counter argument other people were making is that birth control should be free for all women because it positively impacts a community in the sense of stabilizing population growth, lowering abortion rates & possibly even the amount of children in foster care because it gives people the ability to CHOOSE when they want kids. Another argument was that condoms aren’t 100% safe so even with the use of condoms a woman may still need birth control as a backup method of pregnancy prevention.
— — - Granted those were just quick summaries of each sides perspective. I’m sure there’s valid arguments on each side I forgot/didn’t include — — —
