What would you do?
I am a Data Analyst and the Team Lead for my department. I have been with my company for 4 years now. I love my job, the work I do, and the people I work for. The company has a family-like culture that's hard to find. They strive to show appreciation for their employees. They invest in leadership training and mentorship to help employees at all levels of the company grow their skills and potential.
However, the last 2 years or so have been super stressful. We have had a high turnover of Data Analysts leaving for better, more interesting positions. On top of that, the workload has doubled.
3 times in the last 2 years, I have been the ONLY person on my team. I stuck through and worked crazy hours to do the job of an entire team on my own. In response, management doubled my team from 2 people to 4. I now have 3 guys that work in my department. All of them have been with the company for less than a year.
Up until yesterday, I did not know, nor did I WANT to know, what they get paid. As Team Lead, I am responsible for approving their timecards every 2 weeks. We recently changed HR software, so I'm still learning how to navigate the system. I logged in to approve timecards yesterday and stumbled on a page with pay rates.
I started 4 years ago at less than half of what the least experienced new guy is currently making. Not a huge deal as low pay was a part of what was causing the high turnover rate, and since then, I have more than doubled my pay through raises and promotions. Not only am I Team Lead, but I've been serving on an optional Leadership Team for the past year. This means 2 extra weekly meetings, daily huddles, and extra special projects that have nothing to do with my job description.
The other 2 guys on my team, however, get paid $2 and hour more than I do NOW. After 4 years of busting my ass for this company, I am a supervisor that gets paid less than 2/3s of the guys I supervise.
I am hurt. I am pissed. I feel used, insulted and unappreciated.
I can't talk to my SO about it without getting upset. He's also in the Technology field and believes in changing jobs every 3 years. Anytime I have a work issue, he just tells me to quit.
I've decided not to do anything about it yet, but I'd like to hear some opinions. What do you ladies think?
