Need advice on birth control

I want to get on birth control eventually but I don't know which one I want. I'll admit, I'm a little worried about the effects of a hormonal birth control. I also don't know if I want to take the pill because I am pretty forgetful. I was wondering how an IUD would be, but I'm also worried about the string hanging too low and hurting my boyfriend because he often hits my cervix. I already have one child and I don't want anymore so I was thinking about getting sterilized by having my tubes tied, but I looked into it and the doctor thinks I'm too young (24) and may regret it in the future but I know I won't. my boyfriend hates condoms and refuses to use them. We've also considered having him get a vasectomy if I can't find anything I like. Any advice?
