Do you let your 5 year old choose their own outfits?

When going to school/out in public, do you let your child choose their outfits? If so, if the outfit is completely mismatching do you make them change? Do you help them to be sure their outfit goes together? I give them options to select from, knowing no matter what they pick, it will still match. Mismatching clothing that completely does not go together really bugs me personally, but I'm just wondering what you other mama's do? I understand the whole "self expression" behind it, but really wonder why some people let their children look afool in public? I'm just looking for some clarity and I feel overbearing but it just drives me nuts lol a little OCD here...
