taking Clomid for the first time

I'm taking Clomid for the first time on cycle day 3 and my periods come every 27 days and I never had a problem ovulating. I already have a child he's 9. my husband and I have been trying for a second for about a year now. I just want to know if anyone can tell me how this medicine works and if it works. I ask my doctor and he just basically said don't worry there's nothing wrong it will just make your eggs stronger and I should be pregnant in a month. please any information would help
