Breastfeeding and Down Syndrome..

Amanda • Down Syndrome: not a journey I chose, but I sure love my tour guide 💕💕

my baby boy is finally starting to get the hang of breastfeeding at 7 weeks! he was born with Down Syndrome and wasn't able to transfer milk because of his muscle tone and larger tongue. Doctors and nurses said that I couldn't pump enough to get him through his two week NICU stay. I proved them wrong. they then said that I wouldn't be able to keep my supply long enough to sustain him as he grew, and I continued to prove them wrong. my baby is 7 weeks on Sunday and he has only had my breast milk. pumping and bottle feeding because that's all he could do, but I always tried my breast first. multiple breast feeding work shops and meetings with lactation consultants and lots and lots of patience and I finally feel like he is emptying out my breasts with his feedings. I am going to do a weighed feed on Monday and I so hope his progress shows!

ladies, don't let anybody tell you what your body can do! don't get discouraged because someone doesn't believe to can do it!
