Convertible carseat vs infant carseat?

Question

What are the pros and/or cons of choosing one or the other? What do you ladies recommend? I'm a FTM (baby due in February) and all these different carseat choices are so overwhelming!

infant seat all the way. why? because baby sleeps a lot in the beginning and it's easy to take the infant seat out without disturbing the baby.  with a convertible,  the seat doesn't come out, it's HUGE and it doesn't fit on any stroller. plus, infant seats are specifically for the newborn stages (0-8 months). unless ur gonna use a wrap and carry Ur child everywhere,  I suggest an infant seat at first.  sure, it's expensive to buy a convertible later, so it might make sense to buy one from the start,  but unless ur wearing Ur baby, a convertible will be a pain in the ass..

We just switched to a convertible at 11 months, and I miss the infant seat! It's so much more convenient when baby is little, as it's MUCH easier to handle them when sleeping while in the carseat when you can just pop the seat in and out, rather than taking baby out of the seat every time.

We started with an infant seat and figured we’d switch to a convertible one once she was 8 months old or so. She’s now 4.5 months and I hate our infant seat. It was a waste of money in my opinion. For one, our daughter is 16 pounds. That thing gets WAY too heavy walking from the car to the house and vice versa. I click it into her stroller most times when we’re out but it’s still so heavy and annoying. And that’s coming from someone who’s at the gym 5 days a week lol I couldn’t even imagine if I didn’t work out. And second, our daughter is currently 3 inches away from being too big for hers. She’s 27 inches and her seat goes up to 30 inches. It’s always tight putting her into it. So we’ll be switching her to her convertible seat by the end of the month. So ours didn’t last nearly as long as it seems they last for most parents lol

I just switched my 9 month old to a convertible and miss her carrier. Sucks to have to wake them during errands.

They were gifts no I'm not rich lol. plus my infant one came with a stroller and it converts for when my infant is a toddlee I thought that was a win win. I love having the infant car seat. my LO hates being taken in and out of the car seat so just keeping her in helps when running errands

I live in the PA mountains. He was born in Sept. I can't imagine taking him out at 6 am and unbundling him to put him in a convertible seat next month when we are knee deep in snow. He conks out in his seat every time he's in it and he sleeps away while I get all my errands done. I personally couldn't live without it. I'm dreading when we have to use the convertible seat.

Infant seat for the first 2-4 months bc it's easier to get in & out & not wake the baby. 
I recommend gravy extend2fit for a convertible bc it has the extra leg room for growth. It also leans back QUITE far for babies which I loveeeee.

As a FTM, I asked for a convertible car seat because it seemed more economical: it had a wider weight range and would last longer.  My son was born in November in the Northeast and a convertible car seat meant bundling baby up in a bunting to get him from the house to the car then unbundling him to put into the car seat. And it was almost guaranteed that when we got home and had to get him out of the car seat, he woke up. Shortly after birth, my cousin gave us his infant car seat + stroller (travel system) because his daughter outgrew the car seat. It's so nice to have baby all strapped in inside with a shower cap style car seat cover to keep baby warm. And we just bring the infant carrier into the house with us when we get home. If he is sleeping, we leave him in there until he wakes up. Sleeping baby at the destination? We just pop the infant carrier into the stroller and off we go.

We started off with a convertable car seat.when we got our baby home from tge hospital, she looked so uncomfortable in the convertable. The straps were too big on her, she cried all the way home. Finally switched to infant car seat which was more in tune with her size. Id say go with the infant car seat.
