I had to have one done because my husband and I are carriers for a rare though manageable condition that would only affect girls if she was a carrier as well. We needed to know the gender asap so we could treat properly. I wouldn't have got it done otherwise. Even if something shows up that doesn't look good, you'll likely need more invasive testing done to confirm anyway.

I am 29 and had it done. I've had 3 other pregnancies (one which sadly resulted in a loss) and never did it. But since I was adopted and don't know my medical history my Dr strongly suggested it this time. I am happy i did. the screening came back great and it helped ease my mind as well. however, this is a personal decision thst should be made between you and your doctor. I would have never thought to do it until my Dr strongly suggested it. Good luck!

I’m doing it just to know. Regardless of any abnormalities I will love this child, but I’d like to be informed before the baby arrives.

I did. If there was a genetic abnormality that would seriously impact the life of my child, I wanted to be able to consider abortion or ready myself emotionally for the struggles to come after birth.

I declined testing but there was miscommunication with the lab so they did testing anyways. My dr told me to go ahead and get part 2 of the test done so they have full results. I’m not excited about it at all. I really didn’t want to know as I can’t do anything about it if there were high risks and I didn’t want to worry the rest of my pregnancy 😤

Ok can y’all tell me how they do genetic testing. My friend had a child over 8years ago and said they had to put a needle in her stomach and draw blood for it. Is that true? Is it harmful? I have so many questions.

I had mine because I know nothing about my dads side of the family. I'm a carrier of cystic fibrosis as it turns out.

I'm a special ed teacher, but I still plan on having it done. I don't plan on terminating due to an abnormality. I had a coworker who found out through a blood test her baby had a condition that it most likely wouldn't make it through the pregnancy, and it didn't. If that were the case for me I would just like to be able to mentally prepare instead of assuming everything is going well. That's just my personal take on it. Plus I want to find out the gender early!

I didn't because it didn't matter to me. No matter what this baby has, I'm going to love it. Plus all the false positives, it just wasn't worth it to me. Nothing would stop me from having and loving this baby, God gave her/him to me for a reason. And this is my fourth pregnancy, hopefully third baby, and I'm 22.
