TW*RAPE / Does porn ADDICTION (!!!) contribute to rape culture?

I’m not talking about casually watching porn here and there, I’m talking about porn addiction and obsession.

Anyways, I watched this documentary on Netflix just now (it’s only 44 minutes) about the INSANE amount of misogyny and violence against women in India. I had no idea how bad it was till watching that documentary and it had me crying all over the place. A new rape case is reported every two hours in Delhi, and that’s only what’s being REPORTED. Women and female children are raped sometimes publicly but passerbys don’t help or defend them. In 2012 a female medical intern and her male friend were gang raped for an hour on a city bus, the woman was raped so badly she died a few days later in the hospital, her intestines had literally started to fall out of her vagina and she died of infection and multiple organ failures. When they were done with her and her friend they threw them out of the bus on the side of a busy street and they were left there for hours before they got help, multiple people having walked by and ignoring them. (Her name started with an N but I can’t remember it).

Another incident in 2012 was a little girl, about 5 years old named Gudiya and she was raped by a stranger and days later when she finally told her parents, and went to the hospital, her genitals were so mutilated it had pus coming out of it, and her rectum and vagina has become one bc of the rip and tearing. During surgery they also found pieces of a candle and plastic bottle inside her.

Another incident that year a 6 month old infant was raped by her father.

In the documentary one of the female doctors they interviewed said that porn culture and objectifying women as sexual objects is much worse in India than America, and she goes on to put a lot of blame on porn addiction in India for these actions. Saying it dehumanizes women into something men can take and abuse to “relieve their desires” with. A lot of what she was saying basically made it sound like men have no self control, which I disagree with. Men have as much control over themselves as women do so there is no excuse.

HOWEVER with the porn addiction, that is a socialized mindset, it is taught misogyny there along with many other really disgusting misogynistic things going on India (like the murder of female infants).

So how do you feel about porn addiction playing apart in socializing and normalizing misogyny and rape culture?
