Why tell baby's weight..

I always wanted to know why it's important that you say the baby's weight when they are born...why don't people just ask if it's a healthy baby?

I've always just found it fun to know. It's like time of birth, I don't need to know for any reason, it's just a neat part of when they're born. Or, like our son was born 4 weeks early, and everyone was dying to know his stats, just part of the experience.

Just to know. My girlfriends baby was almost 10lbs when she was born! It was fun to compare her to my daughter who was born shortly before at 6lbs
