Is solitary confinement every appropriate for prisoners?

If you chose yes, is the prison responsible for the illnesses that it causes such as: depression, hearing voices, thoughts of suicide etc.--------------------------If you chose no, what other forms of punishment should the guards be able to use on agressive or dangerous inmates?

No, traditional solitary confinement is cruel and unusual. 
I do support use of modified humane solitary confinement for those that present a constant danger to others, or are in constant danger from others.

Solitary confinement has been reported to cause hypertension, headaches and migraines, profuse sweating, dizziness, and heart palpitations. Many inmates also experience extreme weight loss due to digestion complications and abdominal pain. Many of these symptoms are due to the intense anxiety and sensory deprivation.
   
Why would we, as tax payers and a society, want to create more health issues for inmates?

Its been proven to be counterproductive and detrimental to peoples mental health. People NEED people. 
They're trying to get rid of it all together in my province and find more humane ways to further "punish" people in prison for bad behaviour.

Nope. Sometimes prisoners are out there just because they are disliked by guards. Prisoners who go in ok come out mentally destroyed and dangerous because of solitary

Not really. If they are in immediate danger to themselves or others, then I understand separating them. But that’s not always why they are sent to solitary. My cousin was sent there for two weeks which I understand why he was in trouble but I think two weeks is unnecessary for what happened. And yeah I think the prison is responsible for those issues.

Generally people end up in solitary due to their own actions, be it attacking a guard, fighting with other inmates, etc.basically being a high security risk. A lot of the time it's used as punishment, and people usually have stays of 30 days or less (as far as I know). I don't think it's unfair. If people can't control thenselves while in the presence of others, why should they have the chance?

I think it depends, I lean more towards no but then again what if they absolutely need to for a safety issue?  I should ask my friend who works as a prison guard!
