Do babies know when to stop eating?

My 3 week old is eating 4 ounces at a time but I'm wondering if it's to much. I feel like he's been spitting up a lot lately.

Have you tried burping half way through? They also say to keep baby upright for a while after they eat, like 20-30 minutes

They have a pretty good handle on how much they will eat. At this young of an age, they need food to continue development and growth! So it's normal for them to eat more than what we would imagine. However, if it worries you, establishing a feeding schedule is an option a lot of moms take. But I'd definitely talk to your doctor if you decide to go that route so you know how often feedings should be (most I've heard space feedings three hours apart but it depends on your baby).

Babies will reject the nipple (bottle or boob), pull their head away or side to side to try to get away, start spitting it down their chins while feeding, or just simply not suck when they are full. It could definitely be that you need to burp more. I have to hold my daughter upright on my chest for 15 minutes after feeding to keep her tummy happy sometimes she still burps like an hour later 🤷 She was eating 3-4 ounces by three weeks also. at 8 weeks she still only drinks 4-5, 6 if it's nighttime, so they slow down.

4 seems a bit high for a 3 wk old. Try burping after every ounce, it helps tremendously. If still spitting up then you’re likely over feeding.

yes. babies self regulate. They aren't like goldfish. They won't eat till they explode lol if they eat too much they'll simply throw it up
