Ovarian cyst question

I've been having issues with pain in my lower right abdomen and sometimes on my left. My assumption was that the pain was my ovaries. The pain felt like cramping but not period cramping. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year. I wasn't getting regular periods until I started taking progesterone back in April for a few months. I started to regulate but missed my period in sept. My last period was August 23-27. Anyway, flash forward to now and with this pain I went to the dr. I had blood and urine work done and today I had a vaginal ultra sound to see the ovaries and a regular ultra sound to see my uterus. Dr just called me back an hour after the ultra sound and told me that I have a collapsed cyst on my left ovary but the right was ok. The nurse said the pain on the right could be pain because the left is where it's located and can be felt in other places. I was basically told that unless I have extreme pain or a fever that I should just take birth control. I don't want to take birth control. Has anyone had a collapsed cyst? What happens if they burst? Can you still ovulate or conceive with cysts on ovaries? I'm genuinely worried. I'll already have a hard time conceiving as it is with PCOS.
